He Is Near

If you are living anywhere in the world, you have undoubtedly learned the tragic news of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and the others who recently lost their lives in such a devastating accident. I am not one that has followed Kobe's life closely through the years, but I acknowledge the enormous legacy that he has created throughout his career. Regardless, admired up close or from afar, I would imagine there is an ounce of your heart that has been deeply moved by this horrific accident.

Times like these can leave us speechless and in a maze of what to do and how to respond. Tidal waves of questions roll in non-stop.

Beyond a doubt, the families of all involved have been forever impacted by this grievous event. I have found myself in daily reflection and trying to imagine the depth of emotion and heartache each family member, relative, sibling, co-worker, student, peer, child, and beloved friend is experiencing. I still am at a loss for words to describe the extreme and intense pain they must have.

No matter our position (close or far) during these heartwrenching and life-altering events that come in life, there is still One that is greater than it all - who holds us in the palm of His hands just the same. Amidst the vast questions, insurmountable doubt, pain, and immense heartache, numerous promises remain and stand the test of times, offering hope with each step forward.

The Lord God is near to all who are crushed in spirit. (Ps. 34:18)

He gives strength to those who are weary. (Is. 40:29)

He turns morning into dancing and gives joy for sorrow. (Ps. 30:11)

He is as close as the mention of His name. (Ps. 145:18)

I know nothing else to do but continue to pray for these families and lean into these promises over their lives with sincere devotion. I am confident that the Lord Jesus Christ is the ultimate comforter. My prayer is that He alone will hold each one extremely close to His heart and bring a greater awareness of who He is. Even more, that Holy Spirit will bring peace, healing, and strength, strength in the process to grieve and heal and strength to navigate the new way of living and continue the journey in a way that will honor each life lost and ultimately bring Glory to Jesus Christ.
